Below you'll find a selection of frequently asked questions. Get in touch with us anytime and we'll be happy to chat.
Get in touch via our website, Facebook, Instagram, email, text or call, whichever you prefer. We can then book at a time that suits us both for our initial Meet & Greet. If it's boarding you're enquiring about, we will invite you and your dog to our home so we can get to know each other properly. This way your dog has the chance to familiarise themselves with our family home and we will get the opportunity to discuss their needs and routine in more detail. We will provide you with a registration form ahead of this meeting and will ask you to bring an up to date vaccination certificate with you so we can take a copy for our records.
We have spares of most things - vet mat, elevated beds, treats, leads, blankets, towels, food & water bowls, cooling mats, sofa throws, poop bags, toys, balls & night lights (have I forgotten anything?!) which we are happy for any of our houseguests to use, however, if your dog has a favourite toy or anything they can't do without you are more than welcome to bring it with them. We ask that you provide ample food for the duration of your dogs stay with us. Feel free to include any treats you know your dog loves. We'll need you to provide their own harness and a crate if they use one.
We are licensed to board up to 5 dogs within our family home but we keep this to a maximum of 4 for comfort (typically 2-3)
One of our unique benefits is that we don't have a resident dog of our own which allows us to focus entirely on our houseguests needs and routine.
Our home-from-home boarding set up means your dog becomes part of our family while in our care. We want your dog to feel as comfortable as possible so if this means they usually sleep on the sofa downstairs, or on the end of your bed, we will accommodate their needs and routine as best we can :)
Of course! Any dogs that are habituated to a crate will need to bring this with them to use during their stay. The terms of our licence dictate that the crate used for sleeping must be the one they usually use at home.
Although we'd love to cater for all our boarders, the range, type and quantity of food varies greatly from dog to dog especially those with certain dietary requirements, allergies, intolerances & age. Therefore we ask that you provide ample food for the duration of your dogs stay with us. Please include any treats you know your dog loves. We provide poultry based grain free training treats as they tend to be more universal and are enjoyed by the majority of our houseguests.
During weekdays our daycare/boarding is suited to dogs of 7-12 months and older as we get out for a good hours walk as a minimum each day. As long as your dog has received their initial jabs, we are able to welcome young puppies into our home and have done this on many occasions. We will carefully consider who else is boarding at the same time and only match up dogs that are suited to each other to ensure we can provide the correct care for all of our houseguests. Proof of up-to-date vaccination certificate will be required prior to your puppies stay with us and we may require a surcharge depending on their age and training status.
We often choose to board un-neutered males. Every dog is different and will not be discriminated against for being entire.
Unfortunately we can not take bitches when in season. If your bitch is still in tact we will ask when their next season is due. If your bitch comes into season when in our care, we will need to either transfer care to your emergency contact or seek alternative boarding arrangements for which you will be required to cover at an additional cost and cover our transfer fee.
Thanks to our beautiful local area being rich in a variety of quality routes, we try to alternate our walking environments as much as possible. This includes local beaches & coastal paths with a chance for your dog to paddle/swim/cool-off, meadows, parks, woods & forests. On some occasions we take our dogs to The Doggy Retreat or The Paw Paddock, both of which are fully secure outdoor facilities with enrichment activities.
If for any reason you would prefer us to walk your dog on-lead we are happy to do so. Some common reasons include poor recall, training in progress, wildlife chase and/or just not used to being off lead or you may not know what to expect. Sometimes we hear that 'it depends what mood they're in'. If this is the case, we will generally walk your dog on-lead for the first few walks. Once we have formed a bond with your dog and understand your dogs temperament and personality (taking into account their breed, age, sex & neuter status) we can determine whether your dog will benefit from being off-lead or not. Location and environment of our walk is also taken into account. As dogs have evolved from pack animals, from experience we find a 'monkey-see-monkey-do' behaviour emerging within our group walks and therefore it can be more beneficial for the dogs to walk off the lead together.
We actively encourage, reward and reinforce good behaviour so are more than happy to continue with any basic training you are working on.
There will always be myself or my husband at home with our houseguests and we are both canine first aid trained.
No problem at all. We have experience with caring for dogs as young as 10 weeks old right up to end-of-life care. We can apply creams and give dogs medicine orally. All medication is stored as advised ie, in fridge in container or out of reach in a cupboard. All dogs are fed separately to prevent cross-contamination or resource guarding/food pinching.
Within the first few hours after your dog arrives and has had a chance to settle in, we will be in touch to let you know how they are getting on. For the duration of your dogs stay with us, with your permission we'll send you occasional photos and updates.
